Distractology 101 is a crash course on distracted driving brought to you by the Arbella Insurance Group Charitable Foundation (“Arbella”). Distracted driving is a growing problem that is particularly lethal for inexperienced drivers. Arbella sponsors research on this subject and developed a mobile training tour that puts teens behind the wheel of a simulator console. The University of Massachusetts Amherst participated in the sponsored research project and created the driving simulations.
The training is 45 minutes of instructional learning in a fun, interactive setting. New drivers will get a firsthand experience of how distractions interfere with their ability to react on the road, see hidden hazards and avoid accidents. It’s memorable and real. The second part of the training is the Distract-O-Meter Learning Challenge on this site that reinforces the lessons learned in the simulator and uses videos, quizzes and facts to educate and inform. The two parts of the training, the simulator and the online training, complete the full course in Distractology.
